IDSB Information Exchange on Online Safety
12/09/2025
University of Bath IDSB Information Exchanges bring together researchers and our partners in government, industry, policy and charity sector. The theme for this exchange was Online Safety. Researchers within the IDSB have an extensive portfolio of published work relating to online safety and harm.
“Online harm” is an umbrella term used to refer to any online activities which may cause harm to individuals or society. As people move between and within digital systems online harm can easily spill offline, and this is reflected in how harm is studied.
Our focus in the Institute on this theme is primarily on understanding, mitigating and preventing harm and promoting well-being. The idea is to make connections, showcase our research and to discuss in more detail what areas we should be looking at, where we should be focussing our energies over the next 12 months to two years, in terms the challenges to online safety.
